Corneal Thickness

Normal corneal thickness is about 540 microns (half of a millimeter). Thickness is checked with a handheld ultrasound device called a pachymeter.

Why Doctor may ask for this Exam?

Eye Doctor may ask this test for the following cases:

  • Patients undergoing Refractive Surgeries.
  • Glaucoma Patients for applying correction factor in actual target IOP determinations
  • Patients (elderly People) undergoing cataract surgery.

What will happen during this Exam?

In the test a local anesthetic drop is installed in each eye and a pohe touches each cornea to get the measurement.

How much time does it takes? 

This test may takes 2-3 minutes.
