Refraction Exam 

Refraction Exam or Visual Acuaty Test is a part of a routine eye examination. This test tells your eye doctor exactly what prescription you need for your eye glasses or contact lenses.

Why Doctor may ask for this Exam?

Eye Doctor ask for a Refraction Exam to diagnose these conditions:

  • Astrigmatism
  • Hyperopia (Farsightedness)
  • Myopia (near sightedness)
  • Presbyopia.
  • Macular Degeneration
  • Retinal Vessel occlusion
  • Retinal Detachment
  • Retinitis pigmentosa

What will happen during this Exam?

Testing is done one eye at time. Your Doctor will ask you to read the smallest rows of letters that you can see. You will be seated on a device called phoropter on which lens will be changed asking you each time which lens is clearer.

How much time does it takes?

This test takes between 3 to 5 minutes.
