ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens or Intraocular Contact Lens)

This procedure which was brought to the world by STAAR Surgical allows the implantation of foldable lens in front of the natural lens and just behind the iris. It has 2 main types; the regular ICL for correction of far-sightedness and near-sightedness, and the Torric-ICL for correction of near- and far-sightedness mixed with astigmatism.

Material:

The Visian ICL™ is made with Swiss precision from Collamer. Collamer, a collagen copolymer is a proprietary biocompatible material formed from pure collagen and a hydrophilic copolymer with a UV absorbent chromophore. This material has been used to treat the eye for over 15 years now and considered very safe.

Main Uses:

- For younger patients with a clear natural lens and refractive errors outside the safe range for laser techniques. That is to say more than -9.00 or +7.00 diopters.
- For laser candidates who suffer from thin cornea.
- In cases of Keratoconus, after performing Crosslinking procedure, ICL can be used to correct vision.
The ICL and Torric ICL is getting popular nowadays.
